How it works

How does this site check a purchase?

Before you review a mattress, you send us proof that you bought it: the order confirmation the seller emailed you, or a photo of the receipt. We check that it reads as a real purchase of that mattress and that nobody has sent the same proof before. Your review then carries a badge saying what your proof showed.

What can I send as proof?

There are three ways, and each earns a badge:

  • Forward the seller's order confirmation as an attachment to verify@mattresses.reviews. If a seller we recognise signed it, and you confirm which line of the order is the mattress you review, your review gets the Verified badge. Otherwise it gets Evidence.
  • Forward the confirmation the usual way, as a plain forward to the same address. Most phone mail apps can only do this. Your review gets the Evidence badge.
  • Send a photo or a screenshot of the receipt or the confirmation from your account page. Your review gets the Evidence badge.

Which address do I forward from?

From an address on your account; mail from any other address is ignored. You sign in with your email address and a link we send you, no password, and you can add more addresses on your account page. We mail you once your proof has been checked, with a button that takes you straight to writing your review.

How do I forward a confirmation as an attachment?

It depends on your mail app:

  • Gmail on the web: open the confirmation, open the menu with the three dots at the top right of the message, and choose Forward as attachment.
  • Outlook on the web and Outlook.com: open the confirmation, choose More actions (the three dots), then Forward, then Forward as attachment.
  • Outlook for Windows: select the confirmation and press Ctrl+Alt+F.
  • Apple Mail on a Mac: select the confirmation, then choose Forward as Attachment in the Message menu.
  • Thunderbird: select the confirmation, then choose Forward As, then Attachment, in the Message menu.
  • On a phone, the Gmail app and Apple Mail on iPhone and iPad cannot forward as an attachment. Forward the usual way for Evidence, or use a computer for a chance at Verified.

What happens to the price on my confirmation?

The price on your confirmation is kept as an anonymous data point about the product, with nothing that links it to you or your review.

What does the Verified badge mean?

Verified

A seller we recognise sent this exact order confirmation, it names the mattress reviewed, and the reviewer holds it. The badge names the domain that signed the confirmation and the line of the order it refers to.

What does the Evidence badge mean?

Evidence

The reviewer holds something that reads as proof of purchase: a confirmation forwarded the usual way, a photo or screenshot, or a confirmation whose signature does not belong to a seller we recognise. A note under the badge says which. Evidence reviews count in the average and in the ranking, with less weight than Verified ones.

What does Incentivised mean?

The reviewer told us they received something for the review, such as a free product or a discount. The review shows the label, counts in the average, and is left out of the rank score.

How are items ranked?

The average next to an item is the plain mean of its reviews. The rank uses a score that counts a Verified review four times as much as an Evidence one, leaves out incentivised reviews, and pulls an item with few reviews toward the average of all mattresses. An item needs five reviews to be ranked; the others follow, most reviewed first.
